Art as a Voice for the Voiceless: GDC Akhnoor Organises Inspiring Competition on Child Abuse.

Akhnoor, [9-4-2025] — In a remarkable initiative to foster awareness and action against child abuse, the Human Rights Committee of Government Degree College Akhnoor, under the visionary leadership of Principal Dr. (Prof.) Romilla Malla Bhat, organized a compelling Painting, Sketching, and Cartoon-Making Competition on the theme “Child Abuse: A Silent Crime.” The event aimed to channel the creativity and sensitivity of students towards a grave social issue that often remains hidden behind closed doors. With vibrant participation from 30 talented students, the competition turned into a moving visual campaign that highlighted the emotional, physical, and psychological trauma endured by victims of child abuse. Each artwork was a powerful statement — echoing the cries for justice, empathy, and protection. Through colors and contours, students expressed solidarity with the unheard voices of children suffering in silence in the society. The winners were celebrated for their impactful artistry: Mr. Gaurav clinched the First Prize, followed by Miss Shalini and Neelu, who secured the Second and Third Prizes, respectively. The jury, comprising eminent academicians — Dr. Deepika Gupta, Dr. Monika Malhotra, Dr. Neeru Dhalla, and Dr. Anju Bala — praised the students for their profound interpretation and expression of the theme. The event was meticulously planned and executed by a dedicated team including Dr. Seema Bhau, Dr. Pinki Manhas, Dr. Anju Koul, Dr. Sanjay Kapoor, Prof. Sonu, Dr. Sohnika Rani, and Dr. Shahida Ibrahim, under the able coordination of Dr. Shandilya Perminder Kour. This impactful event not only showcased artistic excellence but also reflected GDC Akhnoor’s unwavering commitment to human rights, social justice, and the well-being of children. By merging creativity with consciousness, the college reaffirmed its role as a beacon of awareness and change.
