Symposium on “Mahatma Gandhi and Peace in J&K

Feb 22 GDC Akhnoor organized a symposium on the Topic: “Mahatma Gandhi and Peace in J&K” in the college Seminar Hall. The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Principal Dr. S.P Sharma. The function started with lighting of ceremonial lamp by the Chief Guest and the resource persons Padamshree Mr. S.P. Varma, President Gandhi Global family, J&K and other dignitaries’ invited on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Principal of the college threw light on the importance of Gandhian Philosophy in present era. The resource person Padamshree Mr. S.P Varma while speaking on the occasion directed the young gathering to quest big in life by walking on the footsteps of India’s greatest Peace Icon “Gandhi Ji”. He further added that Gandhiji’s wisdom, truth, justice, non-violence, education, patience, compassion and simplicity inspires all of us to become better individuals. Further second resource person Mr. M.A Malik, Retired S.S.P at present Social Activist, Gandhi Global Family highlighted the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi and stressed on implementing Peace. He further appreciated students for presenting their views on Gandhian Philosophy and Life. The third resource person Dr. Ashaq Malik, Assistant Professor in Botany, GCW Gandhi Nagar elaborated about association of Gandhi Global Family with UNO and further programs/plans which they are going to initiate in coming time like framing of syllabus for peace education programme. He further added that two major issues Peace and Environment should be addressed in J&K for sustainable growth of the state. They further added that UNO days like environment Day and Literacy Day should be celebrated in colleges for enhancing peace and the objectives of Gandhian Model. They were also launching website of Gandhi Global Family in coming time. About ten students from the college participated and presented their views on the topic and the winners were awarded trophies and certificates by the Guests. The winners were adjudged by the jury members comprising college staff; Prof. Chander Shekhar, Prof. Anshu Sawhney and Prof. Anuradha Choudhary. The winners adjudged are: Deepika Sharma ,Kritika Sharma and Shivali Devi stands first, second and third respectively. During the programme a quiz competition was also held in the commemoration of Smt. Kasturbha Gandhi W/o Mahatma Gandhi.

Guest Lecture on the Topic: “ Demonetisation: A Step Towards Cashless Economy”

On 16th Feb 2017, GDC Akhnoor organized a one day Guest Lecture on the Topic: “ Demonetisation: A Step Towards Cashless Economy” in which Dr. Virender Kundal, Sr. Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, University of Jammu was the resource person. Earlier, Associate Prof. Surinder Singh Parihar inaugurated the function and addressed the students about the cashless economy and Demonetization. Dr. Virender Kundal discussed the importance and positive effects of Demonitisation. The lecture was concluded with interactive query session with the students and the staff. The welcome address was presented by Prof. Shamim Ahmed, Assistant Professor in Economics, GDC Akhnoor. The programme was organized by Department of Economics, GDC Akhnoor. The other faculty members present in the function were Prof. Tarsem Lal, Prof. Kuldeep Kumar, Prof. D.N Sharma.

GDC Akhnoor Organized Workshop on Cashless Services

Jammu Dec, 23 Govt. Degree College Akhnoor in collaboration with J&K Bank Ltd organized a Workshop on Cashless Banking Transactions in the college premises. The Workshop was inaugurated by College Principal Dr. S.P Sharma, in presence of Rajiv Bhardwaj, Marketing Incharge J&K Bank Ltd. Speaking on the occasion Principal Dr. S.P Sharma stressed the need of cashless services for the society. Rajiv Bhardwaj, Marketing Incharge of J&K Bank Ltd told about the benefits of Cashless services and advised the students and staff members to use cashless services even for small transactions and aware the society to make it a success. On the occasion three speakers, Prof R M Dutt gave PPT demo on USSD for making transactions without using internet connection, Mr. Sourav Singh(IT Incharge) and Mr. Siddharth Kharyal(IT Executive) from J&K Bank Ltd gave power point presentation and spoke in details about Cashless Banking services(Mobile Banking, Net Banking, UPI etc) and gave a practical demo on how to use cashless services particularly J&K Bank Cashless Services. Students of the college particularly NCC and NSS volunteers actively participated in the workshop and session was closed with interactive queries.

GDC Akhnoor Organize Blood Donation Camp

Jammu Sept, 20 Red Ribbon Club of Govt. Degree College Akhnoor in collaboration with J&K state AIDS Control Society organized a Blood Donation Camp in the college premises. The Blood donation camp was inaugurated by Hon’ble MLA Akhnoor, Sh. Rajeev Sharma in presence of College Principal Dr. S.P.Sharma. Ms Deepika Thakur, Deputy Director (IEC) and Mr. Rajesh Sharma, Asstt. Director (YA). Speaking on the occasion Hon’ble MLA, Sh. Rajeev Sharma applauded the efforts of Principal Dr. S.P.Sharma as well as staff for organing such event and students for coming forward for such noble cause. Ms. Deepika B Thakur, Deputy Direcrtor, J&KACS in her address spoke about the importance of blood donation for society. Principal Dr. S P Sharma also encouraged and applauded the students for being a part of this blood donation camp and making it a success. About Thirty units of blood were donated by the Volunteer of Red Ribbon Club, NSS Unit & NCC Unit (Boys and Girls). The entire event was co-ordinated by Prof. Rewa Lakhanotra (Convener) Red Ribbon Club and Prof. D.N.Sharma (Member RRC), Prof. Surinder Singh Parihar (NSS Officer), Prof. Sushma bala, Prof Kuldeep Kumar (NCC officers) and Prof. Raj kumar Gupta Dean(Student Welfare)

GDC Akhnoor Cadets Bring Laurels

The NCC Girls Cadets Of GDC Akhnoor brought laurels to the college and the J&K NCC Directorate by participating in the prestigious Thal Sena Camp(TSC) held at New Delhi from September 19 to September 29, 2016. ANO 02 J&K Girls Bn NCC Asstt. Prof. Sushma Bala and Principal, GDC Akhnoor Dr. S P Sharma congratulated the students for bringing laurels for GDC Akhnoor.

NSS volunteer selected for RD Parade

25 Jan 2016, Riya Sharma D/o Rattan Lal Sharma student of 6th semester and NSS volunteer of Govt. Degree College Akhnoor has been selected for RD Parade 2017 New Delhi. She is the only NSS Volunteer selected for the 26th Jan Parade among the colleges of Jammu Division. The Principal Dr. S P Sharma and staff of the college Akhnoor congratulated the student for her selection.

Cancer Awareness Programme held at GDC Akhnoor

4th Feb. 2017: GDC Akhnoor, today organized an awareness programme on “World’s Cancer Day” in which Dr. S.P. Sharma Principal, GDC Akhnoor was the Chief Guest. Dr. Rakesh Verma consultant physician, Dr. Pankaj Gupta consultant E.N.T, Sh. Kamal Sharma CHO, SDH Akhnoor were the resource persons. The resource persons delivered lecture on causes and preventive measures of various types of cancers. Meanwhile, a poster making competition was also held in the college premises in which Kritika Sharma (B.Sc. Sem VI), Sakshi Sharma (B.Sc. Sem IV) and Kajal (B.Sc. Sem II) were adjudged 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively whereas two consolation prizes were given to Shivali and Birendra of Sem IV. Winners were given momentos by the Guests. Welcome address was presented by Prof. Raj Kumar Gupta, Dean Student Welfare. More than hundred students attended the event. Other staff members present in the event were Prof. Anshu Sawhney, Prof. Jyoti Sharma, Prof. D.N. Sharma, Prof. Manisha, Prof. Tanvi, Prof. Farahana, Prof. Deepmala, Prof. Rashmi and Prof. Pooja etc.

Targeting the all round development of personality, this institution has a cultural club which works towards awakening the aesthetic sensibilities in students. Our students enthusiastically participated in various cultural items like Dogri songs, Dances, Drama etc. in different competitions held in the college campus and in university of Jammu.
