History

Akhnoor is a place of great religious and geographical importance. It is an ancient town believed to have been established thousand of years back and is situated on the right bank of great and sacred river 'The Chenab' (Chanderbhaga). It is connected with the main land Jammu, summer capital of J&K with a bridge across the river Chenab. The students of this place used to travel a distance of about 28 Kms or more to study in G.G.M Science College, M.A.M. College and G.C.W. Parade. However, due to the visionary and revolutionary step of the local leadership and the government a degree college was sanctioned for this place which started functioning in Govt. Middle School building with the subject combination General English, Applied Mathematics, Education and Computer Application. Now a magnificient college building has been constructed on Kaleeth Road about 7.5 Km from Akhnoor town and it is hoped that soon it shall be a mighty academic centre. Govt.
